At the heart of Distant Lands lies the conviction that the finest coffee starts at the very earliest stages: in the careful selection of seed material for our coffee trees, and the selection of the very best farm land located in optimal growing conditions – at high elevation, with good soil, proper sun exposure, and a well-defined rainy season.

Distant Lands owns several farms and mills throughout Latin America. Our chairman, Bill McAlpin, has been in the coffee farming business for over 30 years. It is from this heritage as coffee farmers that our understanding and practices of quality growing and processing have evolved to become the best in the industry.

Hacienda La Minita

La Minita is our coffee estate located in the picturesque landscape of the Tarrazu region in central Costa Rica. The coffee that we produce from this farm is considered by experts to be among the very best in the world. As our flagship farm, La Minita’s reputation and renown constantly drive us to match its excellence in all of our coffee endeavors.

Over the years this property has allowed us to introduce innovative and progressive farming and management methods that will be used successfully into the future.

Hacienda Rio Negro

Located in remote southern Costa Rica, the Rio Negro region enjoys a well-defined rainy season, which promotes optimal coffee flowering and very high quality production. This is an area rich in coffee culture, where producers are committed to quality and proud of what they produce.
